13 recipients of the Women’s Health Fitness Awards for 2022

If you’re planning to capitalize on the momentum of the New Year to begin your journey to wellness, the right tools can help keep you motivated more when you need them. However, focusing on fitness doesn’t just mean picking up workout clothes and dumbbells.

Investing in your health means investing in every step of the way, from the times before your workouts, to recovery. But what is it really worth investing in? The winners of 2022 Women’s Health Fitness Awards could be a good place to start. Women’s Health Editor-in-Chief Liz Plosser stopped by at the 3rd hour TODAY to share some of the top picks that can help you reach your goals for the New Year.

Whether you want to run in the morning or focus more on resistance training, Plosser has something for fitness enthusiasts of all skill levels.

Girlfriend Collective compression leggings with pocket

Plosser says these leggings are squat-resistant, super-high-waisted, and have pockets. They are available in a range of colors like Plum and Ember and in sizes XXS to 6XL, so there is a pair for almost everyone. Plus, it’s made from recycled water bottles.

Pair of Hex Platemates

These 1.25 pound plates are something small that can make a big difference in your workouts. These are magnetic props that stick to the ends of iron dumbbells, Olympic bars, and weight machine plates to add intensity in small increments. Plosser says they’re ideal for physical therapy because small increases in weight can help build strength without overloading muscles and tendons. This does not mean, however, that they are intended exclusively for beginners – they can help advanced weightlifters through “microloading”; slightly increasing the weight helps to break the “plateau” that often occurs in weight training.

Bear Blocks Pump Bars

If wrist pain is preventing you from doing certain activities, like planks, these chin-up bars can help. They relieve your wrists because you put your hands on them at an angle.

Manduka Align Yoga Strap

Whether you are stretching or practicing strength movements, this strap is ideal for low impact movements. Since it’s small, you can throw it right in your gym bag or keep it with you when traveling for on-the-go workouts.

Bala beam

The Bala Beam’s ergonomic design makes it ideal for concentrated and compound movements, according to Plosser. You can use it for rowing, squatting, lunges, curls, and more to increase strength, agility, endurance, and balance. It comes in two sizes, 15 or 25 pounds, and is as pretty as it is useful.

OXB Oro chain

This women-owned brand makes sweat-resistant jewelry that you don’t have to worry about taking off during your workouts. Each piece is handcrafted in Denver, Colorado, by a team of goldsmiths. You can choose a gold or sterling silver style, but you’ll still want to take care of your piece to extend its life.

Goodr Circle Gs

Plosser says theses are the only sunglasses she’s found that stay put while she runs. These are her ‘must-haves’ and they come in a bunch of fun colors and patterns, including neon yellow and tortoiseshell.

When it comes to recovery, these affordable ice packs are worth considering. They have a non-irritating adhesive that helps them stick to the area you want to icing, so you don’t have to stay in one spot while icing your leg or arm. Plosser says they are “particularly interesting for beginners because they easily adapt to routines.”
