Before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a Hollywood film career, Salma Hayek was a star in her native Mexico, famous for starring in the hit telenovela. Therese in the late 80s. In the mid-90s, Salma made her Hollywood breakthrough in Robert Rodriguez’s neo-western Desperado, with alongside Antonio Banderas. In 1996, she collaborated with the cult filmmaker again, with a small (but memorable) role in the action-horror written by Tarantino. From dusk till dawn. Here, two years later, Salma attends the Hollywood premiere of Lethal weapon 4 wearing Hervé Leger’s favorite bandage dress in a soft lilac hue. 1999 was a huge year for Salma. Following the success of her two collaborations with Rodriguez, the actress starred alongside Will Smith in a bigger budget steampunk western. Wild Wild West and in the hit film by Kevin Smith Dogma. In the first, Salma plays the 19th century heroine Rita Escobar. At the film’s Hollywood premiere, the actress paid homage to the perpetual corset figure, wearing a corset as an accessory with a matching chiffon dress.

At the MTV VMA, 1999

Over the years, the MTV VMA red carpet has witnessed some of the most memorable and outrageous looks in pop culture. In honor of the 1999 edition of the event, Salma experimented with her accessories, venturing beyond her favorite necklaces and barrettes into the realm of body art. On the mat, she paired a clean jersey tube dress and little black sandals with a set of very spinning millennium butterfly tattoos.

That same year, Salma stopped by the Hollywood premiere of Eyes wide closed wearing one of her most typical Y2K outfits. A likely moodboard favorite of some of today’s biggest comeback brands, the look consisted of some of the most defining trends of the era , from lace-up leather and tie crop tops to cork-soled platforms and beaded collars.

By the turn of the millennium, Salma had locked the red carpet choker. At the amfAR gala in 1999, the actress wore a vintage-inspired sapphire and diamond iteration of the ubiquitous’ 90s style. She paired the necklace with three other favorite styles of the decade: the fluffy cardigan, the skirt long satin and chain mail handbag.

From tie-front tops and leather stockings to fluffy cardigans and satin maxi shirts, Salma loved both pieces of the red carpet. For the 1999 annual Moving Picture Ball, the actress wore one of her favorite take on the outfit: a sequined crop top and sheer skirt paired with her sturdy pashmina.

In 2002, Salma both co-produced and starred in Frida, a biopic on the professional and private life of artist Frida Kahlo. She won an Oscar nomination for her film role, making her the first Latin actress to win an Oscar name. At the film’s Los Angeles premiere, the actress went back to basics, wearing the same style of plunging gown that she wore at the start of her Hollywood career, say at premieres of.
