Jonathan Anderson starts again.
Jonathan Anderson’s podiums for Loewe always attract a crowd. But because accessories have always been the strong point of the house, the focus tends to be more on the shoes and handbags that the designer unveils each season, which have a reputation for becoming “it” items. among the fashion crowd.
In the days leading up to her spring 2022 debut, Loewe (and Anderson) started teasing some of what we’d see on her Paris Fashion Week show, especially when it came to accessories: close-ups. black leather sandals with a pink birthday candle and a bottle of red nail polish for heels, a pink crushed under the weight of someone’s footsteps. Indeed, these playful and dadaist shoes play a key role in a collection that the brand itself has called “neurotic, psychedelic, completely hysterical”.
“The Loewe Spring 2022 collection is an experimental statement that marks a starting point and opens a new chapter,” reads the show’s notes. “Provocation, sensuality, movement and fun break the Loewe mold.”
The garment – with its drapery, sculptural elements, movement and play of proportions – is inspired by the “mannerist and hysterical world of Renaissance painter Pontormo”, according to the exhibition notes. Then there is the unveiling of the shoe: a series of sandals and pumps where, instead of traditional heels, are “ready-made” items, including a cracked egg, a rose and a candle and previously teased nail polish, among others.
These shoes “suggest fragility and spontaneity,” the brand explains, and speak to the other underlying themes and feelings that inform the Spring 2022 collection. Elsewhere in the shoe assortment, Loewe’s Flow Runner sneakers have been reissued in compostable translucent plastic and appear alongside Ugg-style boots covered with a soft plush fabric.
With this collection, “new archetypes are defined”, suggest the notes of the show. “A collection that asks to be seen flowing in motion, as the experimentation unfolds on living bodies in a real space.”
So … who will be the first to wear these ready-made heels off the catwalk?
