Shoe design would be an interesting and promising career for those with a flair for design. The Footwear Design and Development Institute is an “Institution of National Significance” under the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Apart from the main campus in Noida, FDDI has 12 centers in all major cities including Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. However, the institute does not have a campus in Kerala. Chennai center phone number: 9442352912

The big program

a) Design Baccalaureate 4 years: Footwear Design and Production / Leather Goods and Accessories Design / Fashion Design
b) 3 years BBA: Retail and Fashion Merchandise
c) MDes 2 years: Design and manufacture of shoes
d) 2-year MBA: Retail and Fashion Merchandise.

There are approximately 2160 places to be won in 12 centres. In addition, an additional 216 seats are allocated to the NRI/foreign/industry sponsored quota. However, not all programs are available at all centers. Candidates from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, Backward Castes, Economically weaker sections and Persons with Disabilities would get reservation up to 15, 7.5, 27, 10 and 3% respectively.

Those who have passed plus two, majoring in any subject, or graduated with a 3-year engineering degree can apply for bachelor’s degree programs. Although a graduate degree in any subject is sufficient to apply for the MBA course, applicants need a degree in specific subjects to apply for the MDes course. Those who pass the final examinations of their qualifying diplomas can also apply. They must, however, submit the results before September 30, if they are selected.

Candidates applying for the bachelor’s degree courses must not cross 25 years of age on July 1, 2022. Meanwhile, there is no age limit for the master’s degrees. The prospectus is available on the website.

The deadline for online applications is April 28. There is an application fee of Rs 600. Candidates in the provided categories and persons with disabilities need only pay Rs 300. Meanwhile, applications can be submitted till May 15 by paying a late fee of Rs 800 It is Rs 400 for applicants of Scheduled Categories and Persons with Disabilities.

The national level screening test would be held in 31 centers across the country including Kochi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune and Delhi. The test is scheduled for June 19. There will be 150 objective type questions in the License Course Admission Test. Meanwhile, there will be 175 questions for the Masters courses.

Candidates for master’s courses who have MAT scores do not need to take the selection test. Those who achieve higher marks would be admitted to the respective courses after being advised. Selected candidates are expected to join the institute on August 16.
