WILKES-BARRE — Linda Loop, founder and CEO of Dress for Success Luzerne County, said Friday that proceeds from this weekend’s “Shop for a Cause” sale will go toward programs to help the agency’s clients.
Shop for a Cause’s three-day sale started on Friday and runs through Sunday. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 38 West Market St., Wilkes-Barre.
Loop said the sale includes brand name designer clothes and shoes.
“Once in a while we get very large donations from clothing companies that don’t always fit our customers,” Loop said. “Our clients go to job interviews and some of these clothes are more for evening wear, cruise wear and cocktail parties.”
Loop said Dress for Success offers programs to address and eliminate “frustrating obstacles” that sometimes arise during a job search. She said the goal of the program is to have a positive impact on clients to help them achieve economic independence.
Loop is a Certified Recovery Specialist who has been in recovery for 38 years. She said many clients came straight from prison and needed help getting their lives back on track.
“I think if I can do it, I can help others do the same,” Loop said.
Loop said the typical Dress For Success customer is between 25 and 30 years old. She said that for women, a lot of how they look has to do with their self-esteem and self-esteem, and Dress For Success aims to provide all three to its customers, regardless of their background.
And Loop said the Shop for a Cause event is coming just in time for the holidays, for those who might be looking for gift ideas.
