HOUSTON, October 12, 2021– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Leading energy service provider Expro (NYSE: XPRO) successfully deployed its OctopodaMT annulus intervention system to restore the integrity of the annulus pressure and put a well back into production in the Piedemonte region of Colombia.

The Octopoda system successfully reached 300 meters in the ring, a world record depth, and sealed the C-ring of the well. This removed the risk of casing collapse and gas migration to allow the well to produce and significantly extend its production life.
Expro worked with its client to design and carry out this high added value intervention operation, which was carried out at a cost estimated at around 25% lower than the cost of a conventional repair on a reconditioning platform. In addition, Operation Octopoda resulted in significantly lower carbon emissions than the conventional alternative.
Octopoda eliminated the need for a heavy reconditioning platform to allow controlled circulation of annular fluids and the installation of a resin plug to the depth of the outer casing shoe. This successfully sealed the ring and allowed production to resume from the wellbore.
Octopoda is the only certified ring intervention system in the world that allows the direct intervention of a live ring without the cost of a heavy reconditioning platform and with a reduced environmental footprint.
The system provides a safe and efficient method of relieving pressure from the closed housing. It can be deployed to replace annular fluid, to increase hydrostatic pressure, and to resolve casing shoe leaks by placing sealant on the bottom of the ring.
Using a unique design, Octopoda is deployed on annular inlets, eliminating the need for a reconditioning platform, providing an alternative that can be quickly deployed to all types of facilities, onshore and offshore, to maximize operational uptime while reducing overall exposure to HSE.
Alistair Geddes, COO of Expro, said:
