John Legend serenaded a cheerful crowd on Friday night as he celebrated his latest collaboration with Sperry in Nordstrom NYC.
The Grammy Award-winning artist sang his acclaimed hits “Ordinary People” and “All of Me”, while spreading holiday cheer with “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “This Christmas”, among others .
Justin Theroux, Natasha Lyonne, Nicole Ari Parker, Tituss Burgess, Dominique Jackson, Brooke Shields, Pete Nordstrom and many more were in attendance.
The festive holiday night opened with a performance by emerging Seattle-based singer Shaina Shepherd, followed by an after party featuring a DJ set from Questlove. The evening was filled with vacation-themed entertainment, specialty vacation cocktails from Nordstrom NYC’s Bistro Verde restaurant, and light snacks.
Legend’s latest collection with Sperry is his first collaboration with the brand on product design. Legend has helped develop three new styles for men for the holidays. These styles include a boot, chukka, and boat shoe that feature suede and leathers, soft lambskin linings, and Vibram soles. Legend-inspired design details such as a printed keyboard on the insole, musician quotes printed on the inside of the tongue and a subtle hand-sewn “JL” branding can be found throughout the collection.
“It has been such a pleasure working with Sperry over the past two years,” Legend said of the collection in a statement. “I had picked my favorite shoe styles from Sperry’s current assortment, and it’s so exciting to be embarking on this next chapter: designing my first capsule collection with Sperry. The styles are based on some of my favorite classic silhouettes from Sperry’s wonderful heritage, imbued with my personal style and sensibility. These are shoes that will add a touch of freshness and sophistication to your look. I can’t wait to wear these shoes myself and I am very proud to present them to the world.
Legend has been the Global Sperry Brand Ambassador since 2020.
The musician, who performed on the cover of FN this summer, said the pandemic gave him more time for family and creativity as concert tours were halted. It also gave an abundance of inspiration to his partnership with Sperry. “I don’t usually write when I’m on tour, so not being on tour means I’ve been more creative,” Legend said of how he’s adapted. “It means I wrote more songs. This means that I was able to engage more with creative ideas. It gave me more time to focus on this [Sperry collaboration]. I think I was more creative during this time than I normally would be because I don’t run as much.
