The holiday marathon has almost reached the finish line: New Years Eve. Let’s be honest 2021 has been a bit of a pain, so let’s be a bit indulgent and decadent – what better way than to dress a little? You may have gone through all the options for your trendy wardrobe. Or maybe you are like me and sometimes you just need something new to get you in the mood to party. This year, consider investing in quality brands designed to be listed, maybe even a few from Dallas. It is a resolution that we can all support. For anyone who isn’t sure what to wear, I’ve provided some New Years Eve outfit ideas based on the different paths your night out might take. Cheers!
Black tie case.
It’s all in the name. It’s making a proclamation that you need to put on your finery for a sophisticated way to ring in the New Year.
BOYS: The only major investment every man should make is in the purchase and subsequent tailoring of his tuxedo. Designers like McQueen and Dsquared2 create embellished and eye-catching versions, but if you only have one, go for Tom Ford or Ralph Lauren’s Purple Label. But with the time moving towards New Years Eve, you probably won’t have time to have something tailor-made, so go for something like this. Black Havana Tuxedo Jacket by Suit Supply. At just under $ 400, it will be a worthwhile investment. Pair it with pants – black is the obvious option, but consider white or a print to be more festive – and patent moccasins and head for the dance floor.
GIRLS: For me, nothing says black tie like Carolina Herrera. I would be hard-pressed to find a girl who doesn’t feel like a princess by putting on one of the designer’s dresses. I love this black and white dress, particularly associated with a ruffled bun in the Bardot style.
Cocktail at a friend’s house.
Perhaps for some the easiest and for others the most difficult to dress. Easy for those who just want to drink and dance with abandon until the wee hours of the morning. For those who fall into that last category – more difficult – then difficult because you want to live up to your image (or at least the one you have in mind of yourself).
BOYS: You can go for a sports coat, but I’m saying do something more fun like a party sweater – and don’t take that to mean an ugly Christmas sweater. Become ultra-chic with a Thom Browne Four Bar V-Neck Cardigan. Can you smell your punk rock roots? Then put on a Clash t-shirt underneath. Want a more dressed up atmosphere? So go for Thom Browne with a white button down shirt and a thin gray tie.
GIRLS: Be affectionate and have fun tonight. Go for the Eve & Max Olivia Black Off Shoulder Jumpsuit in wool crepe and lined in silk habotai. If you’re not familiar with this line, it’s the brainchild of Max Trowbridge art and fashion and launched in early 2021. Pair it with The new Sinner emerald crystal platform sandals from Azuazzara. When wearing a chic and stylish top, I always suggest making a bold statement with your shoe. Don’t even worry about carrying a bag that night as the jumpsuit has pockets that will fit your lip gloss and keys.
nightclub velvet ropes.
Now is the time to really shine. In fact, if you want to compete with the disco ball then you had better have all that glitters.
BOYS: Elegant and simple are my words of the day. Channel your inner James Bond with this Isaia navy blue tuxedo jacket with floral pattern. Stay on the minimal lane by teaming it with a black cashmere turtleneck. Finish the look with black jeans and these gorgeous Saint Laurent Wyatt Chelsea Boots. And if they ask if your name is on the guest list, just say, “Bond, James Bond.”
GIRLS: I want a leather and lace evening. Hope you already have a fabulous pair of leather leggings in your wardrobe. Otherwise, write down these Citizens of Humanity of Cabana. I like a hint of lingerie, so put on some panties (my suggestion is always La Perla), a fur jacket (Sandro has a cute option right now), a Saint Laurent shoulder bag, and simple heels and you’ll look like a laid back party girl.
