Parax indoor bike rack installed and tested and win an indoor bike rack

Smart, stylish and secure, we take a close look at an indoor bike storage solution made in Germany and give readers the chance to win a bike rack!

They say the best ideas are the simplest, and this clever bike storage solution should definitely be one of the best of them all.

Over the past few months, we’ve tested three different wall storage options from German company Parax.

Simple, sleek, space-saving, and easy to set up, there’s a lot to like about the main focus of this review, the L-Rack. This model is actually one of three from the relatively young company run by Torben & Fridolin, two cycling friends who used the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform to launch Parax in 2016.

The L-Rack, as the name suggests, is a hinged rack that folds up against the wall when not in use. Open the unit to a horizontal position and you’ll see the padded top tube cradle as well as flat storage space suitable for a helmet or cycling shoes.

For installation, and it’s absolute child’s play. Using the three stainless steel mounting screws provided, attach the wall bracket to your chosen location (front and center in the living room or living room would be our choice!).

Place the stand on the angled stand and let gravity take over from there. Open the L-Rack, place the bike in the cradle, then stand back and admire.

Attention to detail certainly seems to be one of Parax’s core tenets. Examples of this include the craftsmanship and quality of their products, and even the inclusion of a drill bit/hex key for mounting + drilling jig and pendulum to help ensure a level fit.

Solidly constructed of powder coated steel and melamine coated birch plywood, the rack will support up to 20 kg.

As mentioned earlier, the L-Rack is one of three wall mount offerings from Parax. The others are fixed (i.e. non-hinged) wall mounts. These are the D-Rack, a minimalist diamond-shaped design that protrudes from the wall, and the S-Rack, a fixed design that includes a built-in shelf for additional storage. Parax also sells a leather strap – known as a D-Strap – designed to hold the front wheel to the frame.

Negatives are hard to find, I can only think of one and we’ll get to that in a second.

The stands are stylish, strong, useful and practical – they put your pride and joy front and center, safely inside the home and look absolutely stunning.

Back to that negative, and that’s the distraction. Working from home, like many of us, I keep turning to check my bike and imagine the next ride. Well done Parax, that’s a super impressive offering.
