NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Clothing, Textiles, and Arts and Crafts Programs at CC Sweeting High School and Aquinas The College recently received a major boost from Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort and Offshore Island, through their charity, the Sandals Foundation.

The complex, which is currently undergoing a generously multi-million dollar overhaul, has donated fabric bolts to both schools. It happened after Regional Projects Coordinator Kerry Ann Fung and her team alerted the Tissue Foundation as they felt schools would benefit greatly.

Sandals Royal Bahamian Managing Director Adrian Whitehead made the transfer and said that while the doors to the resort may be closed, their hands and hearts remain open to the people of the Bahamas.

“We are determined to give back to this country in any way we can. I am delighted that Aquinas and CC Sweeting are making good use of fabric and helping students develop the skills they need to create lasting and expansive change in society. As we continue work on the station, we plan to make many more donations in the coming weeks, ”he explained.

He added that appropriately resourced learning environments are an important part of Sandals‘ commitment to education, as transformational initiatives have been the goal of the Sandals Foundation since its inception in 2009.

Principal of Aquinas College, Ms. Shona Knowles, who received the fabric on behalf of the school, said the fabric would be used to help instill entrepreneurial skills in students.

“We have a very dynamic arts and crafts department. The fabric we received from the complex will be used by students for art projects where they make items such as handbags, cushions, stool and bench covers and other artistic pieces. We also plan to use some of the fabric to design backdrops for multimedia purposes, ”she said.

“We are grateful to Sandals Royal Bahamian? and we certainly look forward to a long term partnership between the resort and our school, ”Knowles said.

In addition to the other donations the resort plans to make, in December, the Sandals Foundation will spread joy with a toy during its annual Christmas toy drive. This initiative will see them donate nearly 2,000 toys to children in various schools and communities in New Providence and Exuma.

The Toy Drive has been a fixture on the calendar for over 10 years thanks to generous donations from US toy company Hasbro and the kind support of Sandals and Beaches team members, guests, travel agents and partners. Resorts.
